The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop titled “Global Search Engines” as part of a program to develop research skills for graduate students. The workshop took place in the Scholars’ Hall.
The workshop, presented by Professor Dr. Rafid Sabah, aimed to familiarize students with the importance of major global search engines and how to effectively use them to access accurate scientific information. The workshop included a presentation on the concept of global search engines and their types, such as Google, Bing, and academic search engines like Google Scholar. It also provided an explanation of how to use advanced search tools in each search engine, such as keyword search, image search, and searching by author or title.
Furthermore, the workshop included an open discussion on the importance of effectively using search engines in scientific research.
The workshop greatly benefited graduate students by helping them understand how to effectively use global search engines to access accurate scientific information. Additionally, the workshop aided them in developing their scientific research skills by enhancing their abilities to search for information, improve information evaluation skills, and develop proficiency in using advanced search tools.
The workshop received active participation from graduate students, who showed great interest in the topic. They raised numerous questions during the workshop and engaged in discussions with the speakers about best practices for using search engines in scientific research. This workshop is part of the efforts of the College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Baghdad to develop the scientific research skills of graduate students and assist them in conducting rigorous research that adds value to society.
