The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Baghdad organized its fifteenth annual scientific conference entitled “The Holy Qur’an and Contemporary Global Challenges, Visions and Ideas” and under the slogan “The Qur’an is a method for human happiness” under the patronage of Professor Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim Ansaf, President of the University of Baghdad. The conference aimed to present all the new research of scholars and researchers and their efforts to confront the suspicions raised about the Holy Qur’an, as well as to explain the Qur’anic miracle in general and the scientific miracle of the Holy Qur’an in particular. The conference, which was held in the college halls, witnessed broad participation from researchers and thinkers from various parts of the Islamic world, where more than 40 research papers were presented that addressed various aspects of the challenges facing the Holy Qur’an in the modern era, and the mechanisms for confronting them through an informed scientific perspective. The conference included the reading of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by the reciter assistant instructor, Ahmed Al-Jabri. After that, a standing took place to read the national anthem, and then a film entitled “Illuminations on the Path of Science and Work in the College of Islamic Sciences” was displayed. After that, the President of the Conference, Prof. Dr. Nima Dahesh Farhan, Dean of the College, gave his opening speech. In which, he stressed the importance of confronting the suspicions raised about the Holy Qur’an, explaining its scientific and intellectual miracles, and strengthening the identity of Muslims in their true religion. This was followed by a speech from the presidency of the conference’s preparatory committee, delivered by Professor Dr. Ali Helw Hawass, in which he referred to the role of the College of Islamic Sciences in confronting the challenges facing the Qur’an. The Holy Qur’an in the modern era, including intellectual and ideological attacks targeting the Holy Qur’an, and attempts to distort the image of Islam and Muslims. The conference concluded its work by issuing a final statement delivered by the Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Conference, Prof. Dr. Muhannad Muhammad Saleh, who stressed the importance of the Holy Qur’an in the lives of Muslims, and called for the need to intensify efforts to spread, teach, and enhance its correct understanding. The “The Holy Qur’an and Contemporary Global Challenges: Visions and Ideas” conference proved to be an important scientific platform for discussing the challenges facing the Holy Qur’an in the modern era, and developing enlightened scientific solutions to confront them. The conference also demonstrated the pioneering role of the University of Baghdad in spreading Islamic sciences and promoting tolerant Islamic values.
