Department of Islamic Civilization

Department of Islamic Civilization

Reasons of Establishing Department of Civilization  and Islamic Heritage

Interest in archeology is almost in countries with modern civilizations that do not date back to long generations, and therefore the study of archeology in these countries is not an independent science, but it is a branch of general human studies. In USA , the study of archeology is associated with the study of general  anthropology), some of archeological researches are attached to (physical anthropology),  others attached to  social anthropology and some of them fall within the scope of ethnographic, philological and historical studies.  Some researchers  did not decide a clear separation between the archeology and the history because the theory lines are blurred and inaccurate. But it could  say  that what  is written  is a history and what is a physical is archeology .

It becomes clear that  the archeology  is a science that deals with archaeologies based on the analytical and descriptive study in terms of components  and elements and its relation to  its historical ages and those contributing into establishing them. All this  depended on the bright history of the Islamic nations  and phenomena of  their civilization, languages, arts, cultural, civilizational and intellectual levels, with interest in the  comparative analytical study among a collection of archaeologies related to one era  and one nation . Thus, studying this aspect contributes into correcting many of historical facts.

One of the manifestations of intellectual and cultural awareness is the interest in archeology, especially in ancient civilizations, as is the case in Iraq, whose history rises to the dawn of history on whose hands human civilization began, and then the Islamic call began to awaken from its lands.

 Method:

In their studies, archaeologists use multiple research methods, using the results of the study in a range of sciences related to each other, such as the sciences of history, geography, anthropology, ethnology and comparative linguistics (philology). Currently, radiological and electronic studies are used to measure the age of antiquities and reveal  the nature of its components.

The Interest is growing in the whole world to study its effects, and we are more deserving of this in establishing specialized departments at the University of Baghdad, which is the mother of Iraqi universities to study our Islamic civilization and antiquities.  We have huge volumes  dealing with this subject  in addition to  Islamic archaeologies  defying  the time .
