The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Baghdad discussed a thesis of (Poetry of Safwan bin Idris (d.: 598 AH): Linguistic study) by a student Rafah Hameed Abd Jaafar) from the Department of Arabic Language. The viva was held at Al Al-Bayt Hall.
The thesis comes out with a set of results and recommendations, including Safwan bin Idris’s poetry includes many words and structures that carry with it a new semantic generation that enriched the verbal connotations through the mechanisms of metaphor, allegory, personalization and generalization, which the poet employed to express his feelings. The poetry of Safwan bin Idris was distinguished by the diversity of the semantic fields, which were represented by the field of words denoting sadness, nature, colours, times and war.
The thesis was approved with (Eligible) estimation by the discussion committee consisting of Dr. Basem Muhammad as Chairman, Dr. Shakib Ghazi and Dr. Sari Taher as members and Dr. Khaled Abboud as a member and supervisor.
To closely follow the scientific atmosphere. the discussion was attended by Prof. Dr. Nima Dahash Farhan, Dean of the College, and his administrative assistant, Dr. Arkan Rahim Jabr,
