The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Baghdad held a thesis defense titled “Lexical Studies in Usul al-Fiqh and Their Jurisprudential Applications in Nahj al-Balagha: A Case Study of General and Specific Terms” by Mustafa Abbas Wahib Kati’ from the Department of Islamic Sharia. The discussion took place at the Ahl al-Bayt Hall
The significance of this study lies in its examination of lexical studies, which encompass many jurisprudential issues analyzed through a comparative approach. The study of jurisprudence provides students with extensive background knowledge in various essential areas, enriching their scholarly expertise. Many of Imam Ali’s (peace be upon him) statements are documented across different sources, yet they have not been thoroughly analysed from a jurisprudential perspective to extract their valuable legal insights. The thesis was awarded a Meets Requirements grade by the examination committee, which included Prof. Dr. Ammar Kamil as Chairman, Prof. Dr. Salah Abdul Hassan, Dr. Hamdiya Mohan as members, and Prof. Dr. Layla Hassan Muhammad as Supervisor and Member. The discussion was attended by Prof. Dr. Ne’ma Dahesh Farhan, Dean of the College, and Dr. Arkan Rahim Jabr, Administrative Assistant, who closely monitored the academic proceedings.
