The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Baghdad discussed the thesis “The Concept of Public Interest and its Impact on the Changing of Sharia Ruling” by student (Du’aa Kayan Ahmad) from the Department of Islamic Sharia at Al-Zahra Hall. The thesis sheds light on the importance of considering Islamic Sharia in light of reality, considering changing circumstances and new conditions, and not applying rulings in rigid frameworks.
The research focuses on the concept of public interest as a general underpinning of Sharia, indicating the need for flexibility in legal judgments to adapt to changing circumstances. The thesis emphasizes the importance of understanding reality before issuing legal judgments and considering individual and circumstantial factors that may impact the original decision. The examination committee approved the thesis with distinction, recognizing the significance of the research in contemporary Islamic legal discourse. The discussion was attended by Professor Dr Nima Dahesh Farhan, Dean of the College, and his administrative assistant, Dr Arkan Rahim Jabr, to follow the scientific atmosphere.
