The Scientific Affairs Unit at the College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Baghdad, in collaboration with the Department of Islamic Philosophy, organized a workshop on the topic of “Gender and its Impact on Islamic Thought” in the philosophy department hall. The workshop, presented by Dr. Zaher Fayyad, the head of the Department of Islamic Philosophy, addressed various aspects of this complex topic, including: defining the concept of gender and its historical origins, the relationship between gender and the social roles of women and men in Islam, the challenges facing Muslim women in today’s societies, and the role of Islamic thought in promoting gender equality.
This workshop is considered one of the most important events organized on the topic of gender in Iraq in recent times. It has contributed to sparking discussions on this important topic and raising awareness among the public. Additionally, it has provided practical recommendations to improve the situation of Muslim women and promote gender equality in Islamic societies.
It is expected that this workshop will have a positive impact on the status of Muslim women in Iraq. It is anticipated to contribute to: increasing awareness of women’s issues and gender equality, enhancing dialogue and discussion on these issues, and promoting positive change in Islamic societies.
